Copper Tongue Scraper
Copper tongue scraper for dental hygiene and oral health.
Oral health reflects the health of your whole body. By scraping your tongue each morning with a copper tongue scraper, you’re helping to boost your immune system by removing toxins and bacteria that have built up overnight.
Scrape your tongue first thing in the morning, even before drinking water or brushing your teeth. This simple step in an Ayurvedic morning routine will remove ama, or undigested gunk, that collects on your tongue, which can lead to bad breath and more serious health issues.
While your mind and body is asleep, your digestive system is fully awake doing its job of removing toxins from the body. Some of those toxins are deposited on our tongue through the night, so starting your day off with tongue scraping will help remove them, ensuring they don’t get reabsorbed into your body.
Your tongue is the beginning of your digestive tract. When you scrape the back of the tongue, it stimulates peristalsis which will assist in your morning bowel movement and is essential for digestive health.
Ayurveda tends to favor the use of a copper tongue scraper over plastic or stainless steel because it’s bacteria resistant and provides enzymes to support healthy microbes in the mouth.
How to use a copper tongue scraper:
- Hold ends of tongue scraper in each hand.
- Stick out tongue as far as is comfortable.
- Place edge of tongue cleaner on surface of tongue as far back as is comfortable.
-
Apply gentle pressure, and pull the tongue cleaner forwards in one long stroke.
- Rinse off any white or yellow gunk that’s collected on the scraper. Then repeat up to 3-7 times.
- Stop scraping if no more gunk is collecting on the cleaner. You’re good to go!
You only need to scrape your tongue first thing in the morning to remove undigested gunk that can build up during sleep. Do not repeat later in the day.
NOTE: It is normal for copper to change color over time to be less shiny and perhaps darker.
