How to practice Abhyanga - Traditional Ayurvedic Self-Massage with Oil:
- Warm the oil first: place the whole bottle into a large mug of hot water to liquefy the oils.
- Massage oil into your body using slow rhythmic strokes and circular motions. If you have time, let oil sit for up to 20 minutes, covering yourself to stay warm.
- Shower with warm water to transport the oil deeper into your skin, and rinse off any excess oil your body didn't absorb. Use natural soap as needed. Towel off and dress as usual.
IMPORTANT: Wash your shower floor with hot water and soap after each use to prevent slipping.
Ingredient Highlights
COCONUT OIL
Coconut oil helps protect from the free radicals that cause signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. As a cooling oil, it is beneficial to use during the summer months to both cool and hydrate dry skin.
LAVENDER
Honored for its many emotional and physiological benefits, lavender is ideal for all skin types. When applied on the skin, it cools and soothes skin irritation, assists in reducing swelling and inflammation after hair removal methods such as shaving, tweezing, or waxing.
LEMON BALM
Rich in anti-oxidants, Lemon Balm helps protect the skin against environmental stressors and is a calming source high in eugenol and tannins. Often called “the elixir of life”, Lemon Balm is great for acne and sunburned skin.
NEEM
The anti-bacterial properties of Neem assist with skin conditions such as acne, blackheads, and dryness. Neem has a naturally moisturizing effect and helps to balance the skin’s ph. Neem can help tonify the skin and help restore a youthful glow.
GHEE
We use ghee as a base oil in our body care because it hydrates, protects, and nourishes the skin on a very deep level. It absorbs beautifully when massaged into the skin and hair vs creams that generally just sit on the surfaces. Because we infuse all of our herbal ingredients in ghee, we are able to maximize this oil’s ability to carry the benefits of those herbs, deeply into the tissues for optimal results.
